Ecotopic thyroid is a rare clinical entity which has an incidence varying between 1/3000 to 1/10000. Lingual localization accounts for 90% of the ectopia of thyroid gland. Lingual thyroid was found in up to 10 % of autopsy cases. Therefore, it should always be kept in mind in patients with midline masses in the neck especially at the dorsum of their tonuge.
